I am loving the perfect blend of tradition meets Southern California modern in this Los Angeles wedding by Docuvitae Photography and Films. From the beautiful lace dress to the invitations to the candlelit ceremony, romance and elegance were definitely a strong theme throughout the day. But the organic succulent centerpieces and fun, clean details bring in an awesome contemporary vibe with tons of character. See all the classic meets au courant details in the full gallery!

From the Bride…When we started planning, we knew that we wanted a wedding that was elegant and traditional, but also warm and fun and that reflected our personalities. (Much like the proposal itself–down on one knee, ring in hand…in the dressing room at Target). And, since we’re both foodies, we wanted the food to be delicious. We both got totally into all of the details—me and my groomzilla—and with the help of our families and some extraordinarily gifted (and patient!) vendors and wedding planners, we had a completely perfect day. To top it off, thanks to unbelievable photographers, we are lucky enough to have photos that feel exactly as genuinely, overwhelmingly happy as we did that day (including some priceless pictures our guests created in the photo booth!).
Jennifer’s invitations were dreamy—romantic and understated, incorporating the lace of my dress. The ceremony was in a Serbian Orthodox church, and the reception was at a converted cathedral in downtown Los Angeles, which we were very excited about because we wanted something that felt old and had character, which is not always easy to find here in L.A. The florist did an amazing job creating floral arrangements that were sculptural and organic and not overdone or too “flowery.” For dinner, two courses were served at long tables, and then desserts were passed while everyone danced (we skipped wedding cake). Towards the end of the night, we served grilled cheese sandwiches—an especially yummy treat after a long night of drinking and dancing.
My advice to brides (other than stalking Style Me Pretty, which I did constantly), is to have a good time with all of the little things, but to try not to let them make you crazy, because there’s a lot of joy to be had or missed. Although all of the details of our wedding were important and meaningful, the one memory that will always mean the most to me is detail-free—the moment when I walked down the aisle, and didn’t see anyone or anything but my husband waiting for me.
